Pelican Cases for Sensitive
and Expensive Equipment
Pick an pluck foam and Padded
Dividers
Pick and Pluck -This is a very
simple type of protection. All you have to do is pull out the half
inch cubes wherever you don't need them an you've got instant protection.
Depending on how deep the case, pick and pluck comes in one two
or even three layers. A set of pick and pluck also includes 2 more
layers of foam. A layer in the base of the case and the conguluted
layer in the lid liner. Pick and pluck foam is a stock accessory
to all Pelican Cases,
Padded
Dividers- Padded dividers are really simple. Foam panels
are wrapped in nylon and fitted with velcro ends so they can be
positioned wherever you like
Double throw latches
For
25 years Pelican used classic c-clamp latch design, its simplicity
made them famous for their strength and durability, that is why
you will never see a pelican with springs that can corrode, or buttons
that can get jammed with dirt or mud.
Pelican recently introduced a new design called
the double throw latch. It features the same amazing strength, but
opens with just a light pull. It is called the double throw latch
because the secondary movement leverages against the case wall to
release the latch. You will find this new design across the entire
line of pelican protector cases.
Structural Foam Wall and Defelctor
Ribs
Pelican
cases are made with a unique structural cell molding process.
Agents are mixed in with the polymer pellets, causing them to expand
inside the mold.
This process takes about twice as long as conventional
injection molding, but the result is a laminate structure that is
lighter and more rigid than a solid core wall. The big advantage
of closed cell wall structure is reduced fractures, if an impact
does break a panel, the closed cell acts like a road block to limit
the fracture. This is expecially true in low temperatures, where
materials can become brittle. In fact, pellican cases have passed
stringent military test to operate in temperaturs from sub-zero
to 131 degrees farenheit!
Another strength about are the gradual defelector
ribs. An impact force that hits these ribs is driven away from the
case. These ribs protect the attachment points for the latches and
hinges.
Automatic Pressure Release
Valve
You
cannot change alittude with an airtight case and still open the
lid. That's because air pressure is higher at low altitudes which
creates a vacuum inside the case. To solve this, pelican originally
created a purge valve that released pressure by turning. There are
millions of pelican cases in use today with this origonal manual
valve.
Today, pelican
cases use an automatic purge valve. Pelican worked with gore-tex
to develop a special membrane that allows air to move freely but
is still waterproof. This works because water molocules are blocked,
but allows air molocules, which are smaller, to move freely in and
out of the case
